Risinger stepping down as Buffalo Grove Park District leader

Buffalo Grove Park District Executive Director Ryan Risinger will retire in May, ending a 31-year tenure with the district, the last eight as its top administrator.

Risinger joined the district as an intern in May 1992 and worked his way up from recreation supervisor to division manager, superintendent of recreation and director of recreation. He was named executive director in 2014, taking over for the retiring Dan Schimmel.

"Not many people can say they've spent their entire career in one place," he said in a news release. "I am so incredibly fortunate to have landed where I did, and spend my entire professional career at an agency like the Buffalo Grove Park District."

He thanked the park board and recognized former directors, co-workers and colleagues for their effect on his career.

Risinger has been a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove for the past 10 years, serving as its president in 2017-18.

"Ryan has been a tremendous asset to the park district, and to the Buffalo Grove community," said Buffalo Grove Park District board President Scott Jacobson. "He has devoted his entire career of over 30 years in making Buffalo Grove a great place to live. He will be missed."

Risinger has put into place "a strong team" that will continue the park district's work, Jacobson added.
