Garbage truck fire causes road closure in Hoffman Estates

A vehicle malfunction in a garbage truck led to a road closure in Hoffman Estates on Wednesday, according to the fire department.

At around 2 p.m., Hoffman Estates firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Washington Boulevard and Kingman Lane. Authorities said that some smoke was visible within the garbage truck upon arrival.

A wiring harness within the truck began to smoke from overheating, and the driver pulled over. A Groot mechanic was also on scene removing the wiring harness underneath the vehicle, according to authorities.

One block of Washington Boulevard was shut down for 20 minutes to allow for an investigation.

No one was injured, but the truck was left disabled and had to be towed.
