Aurora police seeking person who shot, killed family member

A man was shot and killed by a family member early Monday during a dispute in an Aurora home, police said.

Authorities say they believe the victim and a family member were arguing when the family member shot him and fled.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed from the basement of a home on the 1800 block of West Illinois Avenue in critical condition just after 1:40 a.m., Aurora police spokesman Paris Lewbel said. Despite the lifesaving measures of paramedics and emergency room staff, the man died, Lewbel said.

Lewbel said a third person in the home called 911 to report the shooting.

Police are asking anyone in the nearby area to help investigators track down the shooter by sharing information and surveillance video they may have from video doorbells or security cameras with the Aurora Area Crime Stoppers by calling (630) 892-1000 or visiting the website aurora-il.org/CrimeTip, Lewbel said.

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
