Levitt chosen for second term as chief judge in Lake County

The circuit judges of Lake County's 19th Judicial Circuit have voted Judge Mark L. Levitt to a second term as chief judge.

Levitt will begin the term on Jan. 2, 2023, and it will end Jan. 1, 2024.

"I was elected to the role of chief judge during a difficult and unprecedented time. As we continue to adapt and overcome to serve the public, I am grateful to the circuit judges for their continued support and confidence in my ability to help make Lake County's court system even more efficient and effective," Levitt said in an announcement of his selection.

Before his election to the bench in 2010, Levitt worked in the Cook County Public Defender's Office, where he served on the Homicide Task Force.

Levitt, who earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is a member of the Deerfield Rotary, the Deerfield Lions, and a former member of the Deerfield School District 109 board of education. He volunteers for various charitable organizations and was a former league president of the Deerfield Youth Baseball Association.

His reelection took place at a circuit judges meeting June 21.
