Wheaton Warrenville District 200 school board looking to fill vacancy

The school board in Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 will appoint a new member to fill a vacant seat until the 2023 election.

The appointed member will succeed Mary Yeboah, who is stepping down in the midst of her first term on the board. Yeboah is moving out of state and will officially resign her seat at the end of the month.

In last year's school board elections, Yeboah received the most votes in a jam-packed field of 10 candidates. Yeboah, who holds a doctorate in educational administration, called attention to academic achievement gaps in the district.

Voters won't get to decide who takes her place on the seven-member board because the vacancy opened up with fewer than 868 days left in her term, a timeline set by Illinois School Code.

The board plans to appoint a new member at a meeting on Aug. 24.

The district is asking anyone seeking the position to complete an online application and submit a letter of interest outlining their relevant credentials.

Application materials must be sent to board clerk Dianna Hutchison at Dianna.Hutchison@cusd200.org by 4 p.m. Thursday, July 7. The board will select candidates to interview on to-be-determined dates.

Yeboah's replacement will complete her term until the seat is up for election in April 2023.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 and a registered voter who has lived in the district for at least a year.
