Kane County SWAT standoff overnight near Elgin ends peacefully

A Kane County SWAT team response to a domestic disturbance just after midnight Monday near Elgin ended peacefully after negotiations with an armed woman who was barricaded in a room.

The Kane County sheriff's office said deputies were called to Old Mill Court near Bowes Road in Plato Township at 12:08 a.m. after a family member reported that a 45-year-old woman who lives there was not acting normally.

After an argument with relatives, the woman armed herself with a knife and barricaded herself in a room that also contained a gun, sheriff's police said.

Crisis negotiators convinced her to leave the house and she was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin for evaluation, according to the sheriff's office.

The incident remains under investigation and no charges have yet been filed, authorities said.
