Cedar, Elm street reconstruction set to begin in Palatine

Work is scheduled to begin next week on the reconstruction of Cedar Street from Illinois Avenue to the cul-de-sac, and Elm Street, from Dorset Avenue to Illinois Avenue, in Palatine.

The village received more than $1.5 million in Rebuild Illinois grants through the Illinois Department of Transportation to fund the entire project. The work includes pavement resurfacing and base course batching on Elm Street from Gilbert Road to Illinois Avenue, full-depth pavement reconstruction on Cedar Street and Elm Street from Dorset Avenue to Gilbert Road, curb and gutter replacement, new storm sewer installation, sidewalk replacement, and ramp upgrades to meet ADA requirements.

Both streets will be accessible during the project, but at times there will be traffic delays due to construction activities, officials said.

Elm Street from Dorset Avenue to Gilbert Road will be one-way only southbound for the duration of the project. Traffic wanting to head north on Elm will be directed south to Illinois Avenue, Cedar Street, then Dorset Avenue. At the intersection of Dorset and Elm, vehicles can then proceed south on Elm through the work zone.

Anyone with questions can contact the Palatine Public Works Department at (847) 705-5200.
