Naperville honors fallen officers with Police Week ceremony

The Naperville Police Department held its annual Peace Officers Memorial Observance on Monday morning to honor fallen officers throughout the state.

The ceremony, corresponding with the start of Police Week, was held at the public safety memorial located between Naperville's police and fire department main buildings. About 50 people attended.

Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres offered a welcome and read the names of officers who died in the line of duty. Mayor Steve Chirico delivered remarks, and Naperville Police Chaplain Mike Hurst said opening and closing prayers.

With the slogan of "In memory of many ... in honor of all," the event also paid tribute to officers disabled in the line of duty.
