'Person of interest' in gunshot death of Geneva woman released from custody

Geneva police have released a man they called a "person of interest" in the death of a woman last week.

The man was detained on the evening of May 4, when police were called to a home on the 700 block of McKinley Avenue by a woman reporting that Jodi Grzeda-Anderson, 43, was missing. He is related to Grzeda-Anderson.

Police found Grzeda-Anderson's body in the backyard. She died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to preliminary autopsy results from the Kane County coroner. The results of toxicology tests are pending.

At the time, police said the man, who was at the home, could not provide "substantiated" information about what happened.

He was released from the Kane County jail Friday evening.

The case remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 232-4736.
