Coroner's office: 43-year-old woman found dead in Geneva was shot once in the head

The Kane County coroner's office identified the woman who was found shot to death Wednesday night in Geneva as Jodi Grzeda-Anderson, 43, according to a news release.

According to an autopsy Friday, the preliminary cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head.

Her body was discovered in the backyard of a residence on the 700 block of McKinley Avenue.

Toxicology was sent out to a lab and results are pending.

The coroner's office is working with Geneva police in further investigation of the death, the release stated.

"We are not calling this a homicide," Geneva police Cmdr. Brian Maduzia said. "That is still yet to be determined by investigation."

Police said Thursday a female relative called them at 8:02 p.m. Wednesday, saying the 43-year-old woman had been missing since 5 a.m. Tuesday. Geneva and St. Charles police went to her home to check on her.

A male relative at the house could not answer their questions, or provide any "substantiated information" on the missing woman, police said. Officers then searched the property and found the woman in the backyard of the single-family home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Thursday the man was taken into custody and considered a person of interest, but no charges were filed.
