Gurnee honors its Teacher of the Year recipients

Three teachers at Gurnee public schools were honored this week as village 2022 Teacher Of The Year Award recipients.

Ashley Turkington, a Warren Township High School teacher who works with students with emotional disabilities and other behavioral concerns; Joe Rejczyk, a Woodland Intermediate teacher who first taught gym and now teaches special education; and Lisa McLeRoy, a teacher at Spaulding School, received the awards during the village board meeting Monday.

Mayor Tom Hood, Don Henderson of the Henderson Foundation, and each school district's superintendents were on hand for the ceremony.

Along with receiving a plaque recognizing their achievement, the teachers received a monetary contribution from the Henderson Foundation.
