Free recycling event Friday in Palatine

This story has been updated to correct the date of the event to Friday, May 6.

State Rep. Tom Morrison is partnering with Palatine American Legion Post 690, Paper Tiger, S.C.A.R.C.E., and Working Bikes to host a free recycling event from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 100 W. Michigan Ave. in Palatine.

The event will collect items including old flags, fax machines, keys, bikes, printers, Brita water filters, laptops/computers, books, holiday lights, cables/accessories, keyboards, gaming devices, small inkjet cartridges and cellphones.

Televisions and external hard drives will not be accepted.

"These recycle drives are popular because there's a large amount of electronics and other items that otherwise would go into our landfills," Morrison, a Republican from Palatine, said in an announcement of the event.

In order to expedite drop-offs and minimize potential for traffic tie-ups around the site, enter from Cedar Street to West Michigan Avenue. There will be some signage and personnel to help direct traffic.
