Open house Tuesday on proposed Fort Sheridan National Cemetery expansion

An open house regarding the proposed expansion of the Fort Sheridan National Cemetery will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, 878 Lyster Road in Highwood.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Cemetery Administration and the Lake County Forest Preserve District will provide information regarding the VA's request to transfer 4.7 acres of forest preserve property to expand the cemetery and install columbaria, which are used for aboveground interment of cremated remains.

An exhibit board will explain the plan and representatives from the VA, NCA, and the forest preserve district will be available to answer questions. Those who can't attend can view the plan and submit comments until May 6. Visit https://www.lcfpd.org/fort-sheridan-national-cemetery/ for more information.
