Naperville businesses cited after tobacco compliance checks

The Naperville Police Department issued citations to three businesses after conducting tobacco compliance checks.

Police officers completed the tobacco and alternative nicotine checks at 72 Naperville businesses Saturday and Sunday to determine if they were complying with minimum-age laws that prohibit nicotine sales to people under the age of 21.

While 69 businesses passed the compliance check, citations were issued to Jewel/Osco at 1227 South Naper Blvd., CBD Vape Smoke at 4003 Plainfield-Naperville Road #105, and Smoke XL at 1003A West Ogden Ave.

With the help of a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Naperville Police Department educates retailers about regulations involving tobacco sales. Retailers are given an education packet and notified compliance checks will occur in the near future.
