Hanover Park announces new police chief

The village of Hanover Park has announced the appointment of Deputy Police Chief Andrew Johnson to the position of chief of police.

Johnson will be sworn in by Mayor Rodney S. Craig at the village board meeting of 7 p.m. May 5 and have an effective start date of May 7.

Johnson began his career with the Hanover Park Police Department in July 1999 as a patrol officer. He has served as a member of the department's Special Operations Group and as a detective, during which time he was assigned as a member of the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team homicide task force.

Johnson went on to hold various supervisory positions in the department, including tenure as deputy chief of both the operations and support services divisions. He is also the current chair of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Public Relations Committee.

Johnson is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and holds a master's degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College in Missouri. He has received several awards and letters of recognition throughout his career.
