Two people, dog injured in Zion basement fire

Two people and a dog were injured in a house fire Friday night in Zion, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived in the 2300 block of Gideon Avenue around 9:17 p.m. and found two people trapped in the basement with smoke coming from the rear of the home, according to a news release from the Zion Fire Department.

Crews pulled a woman with smoke inhalation and a man in critical condition out of the basement window and transported both to Vista Medical Center East, the news release said. A dog was also sent to an emergency veterinarian.

Firefighters put out the fire with multiple hose lines in the basement, according to the news release. Most of the damage was contained to the basement, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the house.

It's estimated that the fire caused $65,000 worth of damages, the news release said.
