40 nonprofits in Kane County to share $2 million in relief funds
Kane County has selected 40 nonprofit organizations to receive shares of the $2 million in community support grants the board approved this week.
The grants, which range from $4,000 to $200,000, will go to service providers, including homeless shelters, food pantries and mental health agencies that suffered financial losses due to the pandemic.
Funding for the grants comes from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The recipients can use the money to reimburse eligible expenses incurred from March 2021 to March 2024.
"We are building on the investments we made in our nonprofit community earlier this year with another direct distribution of pandemic relief funding," Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog said in a news release. "It's our hope the grant awards will begin to ease the financial strain so many of our safety net providers have experienced through no fault of their own."
Last month, board members approved ARPA grants of $333,333 each for six local nonprofit agencies.
Among the recipients in this round of funding are the National Alliance on Mental Illness KDK ($68,650), F.I.S.H Pantry ($17,273), Changing Children's Worlds Foundation ($30,386), Community Crisis Center ($108,781) and Elderday Center ($41,784).
