Yet another truck gets stuck on Long Grove bridge
Yet another truck got stuck under the cover of Long Grove's iconic bridge, authorities said Thursday.
This is the 30th time a truck has struck the bridge cover since it was reopened in August 2020 following repairs from a previous collision, according to Lake County sheriff's Deputy Chief Chris Covelli.
At 12:25 p.m., a 36-year-old man from Arlington Heights who was driving U-Haul truck got stuck after ignoring the signs warning drivers of the 8-foot, 6-inch height restriction, Covelli said.
It took three tow trucks about three hours to remove the U-Haul. The driver received a citation for disregarding the height clearance signs, Covelli said. The bridge sustained cosmetic damage but is still structurally sound, he said.
