District 300 reviews COVID mitigation metrics

Community Unit District 300 officials this week reviewed guidelines that will help determine when, or if, the district should reinstitute COVID mitigations such as mandatory face coverings.

The guidelines take into account metrics such as infection rates at the county, district and school levels, hospitalization rates and the number of ICU beds available across the counties served by the district.

The Algonquin-based school district switched from a mandatory masking policy to a mask recommended policy last week following an appellate court ruling.

As of Feb. 18, 14 of the district's 26 schools had no cases of COVID-19 reported and 12 schools had a positivity rate less than 1%, according to the district's website. None of the district's schools required additional mitigations.
