Deer Park's newest trustee has history of public service

A member of Deer Park's planning and zoning commission has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the village board.

Jimi Psarakis succeeds Jodie Johnson, who resigned in December. He called joining the board "an honor."

Psarakis, an executive with a digital billboard company called Digital GreenSigns Chicago, stepped down from the planning commission to take the new municipal post. He also serves as president of the Dover Pond homeowners association.

Being a trustee "will help me even more deeply commit to our village and residents," Psarakis said.

Psarakis moved to Deer Park from California nearly five years ago. He cited environmental sustainability as a key concern.

Johnson's former seat will be up for election in April 2023. Psarakis will serve until then, at which time he'll be able to run for a full term.

Psarakis said he intends to run.

Johnson had been a trustee for about four years and served "faithfully and diligently," Village Administrator Beth McAndrews said. She stepped down because of family issues, McAndrews said.

Village President Greg Rusteberg formally nominated Psarakis for the post, and the move was approved by the village board last week.
