Carol Stream fire district awarded top rating by national insurance company

The Carol Stream Fire Protection District has received a top rating from the Insurance Services Office, an organization that evaluates fire services across the country.

The fire district is one of only 27 fire departments in Illinois to earn a Class 1 designation.

ISO rates each department on a scale of one to 10, with one considered superior property fire protection. The company evaluates departments based on personnel, training, apparatus, equipment, public education, water supply, as well as emergency operations and communications.

Insurance companies may use an ISO classification when calculating property insurance premiums.

Carol Stream Deputy Fire Chief Tom Nash helped oversee a more than monthlong evaluation process.

"This new rating is because of the hard work put in by the men and women every day who work for the Carol Stream Fire District and support from the Fire District board of trustees," Fire Chief Rob Schultz said in a news release.
