Warren Township High School officials to host tax hike info session at Gurnee library

Warren Township High School District 121 will host another informational meeting for the community on the upcoming tax increase referendum.

The district is seeking approval for a 60-cent property tax hike to generate about $13.25 million in additional revenue annually. If the measure passes, the owner of a home valued at $250,000 would pay about $500 more per year in property taxes.

District leaders have described funding to be at a critical point. Since 2015, the district has cut 66 full-time positions, including 48 teachers, nine school support staffers, five transportation employees, three administrators and one school resource officer, documents show.

District administrators will host an English language meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Warren-Newport Public Library and host a Spanish language version at 7:30 p.m.

The measure will be on the June 28 primary ballot.
