Park district: Naperville Riverwalk vandals turned themselves in

Two suspects sought in vandalism incidents along the Naperville Riverwalk turned themselves in to police, according to Naperville Park District officials.

In the early morning hours on Jan. 30 and again last Saturday, two people damaged lamps near the Riverwalk Cafe at 441 Aurora Ave. They smashed through the housing of the lamps and hit the bulbs, causing an estimated $600 in damage.

After video images were released Thursday by Crime Stoppers, the pair turned themselves in and admitted their involvement in the vandalism. According to park district officials, they were released without charges being filed while the investigation continues.

The case will be reviewed by the DuPage County state's attorney's office for possible charges.

"The Naperville Park District police thank members of the community who came forward with information concerning the suspects' identities," said Steve Schindlbeck, the park district police chief.
