Second Aurora gang member convicted of 2017 murder

A second gang member was has been convicted of a 2017 murder in Aurora.

A Kane County jury deliberated for four hours before finding Anthony Medina, 29, of Aurora guilty in the killing of Rodolfo Rocha, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Medina now faces 75 years in prison alongside fellow gang member Martin Garcia Jr., who was sentenced for first-degree murder in March 2020.

On June 10, 2017, Medina and Garcia approached Rocha and others outside a Grove Street home and demanded they admit to gang affiliation, the news release said. After they said they were not gang members, Medina fatally shot Rocha in abdomen.

Medina was convicted of first-degree murder, armed violence, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member.

Medina has been held in the Kane County jail on $3 million bail since his arrest in 2017. His next court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. April 14.
