Vigil planned Sunday for victim of Naperville domestic murder-suicide
A candlelight vigil is planned for Sunday to remember a Naperville woman who was killed this month by her ex-husband.
The vigil for Karen Easton is at 6 p.m. at the Free Speech Pavilion on the Naperville Riverwalk, near Webster and Jackson streets, across from the Nichols Library.
It is organized by Rachel Simner, whose child attends the school Easton's son attended. Simner also volunteers at domestic violence shelters and is a member of Moms Demand Action, which advocates for stronger gun laws and other measures to prevent gun violence.
"This story is just heartbreaking for me," Simner said.
Easton, 42, was killed on Jan. 18 in what authorities say was a murder-suicide. Naperville police say her ex-husband, a Michigan resident, shot her in her apartment, then shot himself to death.
People attending the vigil should bring a flameless candle, as Simner will have a limited amount to give out.
She will be collecting donations for Easton's family, which has a GoFundMe page for funeral and other expenses. According to the page, "Karen Easton's funeral expenses," she will be buried in her hometown in the Philippines.
