No injuries reported in Pingree Grove warehouse fire

A warehouse fire in Pingree Grove took more than six hours to extinguish due to the extreme cold and a ruptured gas meter that caught fire.

Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District officials said they were alerted to the three-alarm blaze just before 3:45 a.m. by the automatic fire alarm at the warehouse located on the 1100 block of Bell Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire showing in commercial building.

It took nearly two hours to contain the majority of the fire with the assistance of 13 other neighboring agencies. The fire was fully extinguished just before 10:15 a.m., officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No damage estimate was available.

Route 20 in the area was closed for several hours, but reopened after fire equipment was cleared.
