Schingoethe Center to host opening reception for two exhibits Jan. 25

Aurora University's Schingoethe Center will hold an opening reception for two exhibits, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the gallery, 1315 Prairie St. in Aurora.

"Alice Hargrave: Sea Change" and "eARTh tones" will run to April 29. The public is invited.

"Sea Change" centers on two of the Chicago artist's current projects: "Last and Lost Calls," inspired by ornithologist and artist John James Audubon's trip to the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas, and "Sea Change," which focuses on the loss of living coral.

Hargrave's large-scale installations include audio recordings, photographic prints on fabric and framed photos.

"eARTh tones" features photographs, painting, sculpture, prints, and installation pieces addressing pressing environmental concerns. The show features 10 artists' creative responses to critical issues affecting everyday lives by visualizing scientific data, illuminating overlooked topics and highlighting sustainable solutions underway.

Center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
