GOP candidate from Naperville drops out of 11th Congressional District race
A Republican candidate has dropped out of the race for the 11th Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Bill Foster of Naperville.
In a statement issued Thursday, Michael Pierce, an Army veteran from Naperville, said he isn't able "to devote the kind of time and energy needed to run a successful campaign."
"This is certainly not an easy decision, but it is the right one for me and my family," Pierce said.
With primary elections set for June, Foster is the lone Democratic candidate at this point.
Republican hopefuls include Catalina Lauf, Krishna Bansal and Cassandra Tanner Miller, according to the Federal Election Commission website. Of that trio, only Lauf has announced a 2022 campaign; the other two have filed campaign paperwork with the FEC but have made no public announcements.
Candidate petition filing has not yet begun.
Redrawn for the 2022 election, the 11th District includes parts of DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties, among others.
