Aurora man charged with with murder in fatal Janaury 2021 shooting
An Aurora man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man on Jan. 15, 2021.
Charges were filed Dec. 17 against Daniel Aguirre, 23, of the 800 block of South Loucks Street, according to Kane County court records.
He is the second man charged in the death of Fernando Carapia, who was shot to death early last year in the 300 block of South Spencer Street.
According to authorities, Aguirre was a passenger in a vehicle when at 4:45 p.m. Jan. 15, he got out and fired several shots, killing Carapia.
The driver of the vehicle, Ivan Valles, was arrested Jan. 16, 2021 and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He pleaded guilty Dec. 16 to the conspiracy charge, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to Kane County court records.
Aguirre is being held on $1 million bail. He initially was arrested Dec. 2 on a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing a peace officer. He has been held in the Kane County jail since Dec. 3, according to the Kane County sheriff's jail log.
To be released pretrial he would need to post $100,000 bond on the murder case. The jail website indicates there is also $29,000 bail on several other cases, including cannabis possession charges.
He is next due in court Friday.
