Round Lake attorney to run for Lake County Board

Carolina Abarca Schottland, an attorney and a 20-year Round Lake resident, announced this week she'll be running in the Democratic primary for the Lake County Board District 16 seat.

The district includes all or portions of the four Round Lake communities.

Abarca Schottland volunteers at several local civic and community organizations, including Mano a Mano Family Resources Center, Round Lake Area Garden Club, Lake County forest preserves and the University of Illinois Extension service.

She said there is a need for greater collaboration and a stronger relationship with community members in the area.

"Local residents want solutions, opportunities, access and leadership as we continue to face challenges related to COVID-19 and beyond," she said in the announcement.

The district was redrawn to better reflect the substantial Latino population. It encompasses an area currently represented by Democrat Terry Wilke and Republican Dick Barr.

County board members also serve as commissioners of the Lake County Forest Preserve District. The primary is June 28.
