High winds, 'near white-out conditions' possible for parts of suburbs today
A National Weather Service winter weather advisory will be in effect for DeKalb, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties from 9 p.m. tonight to 6 p.m. Thursday.
Hazardous travel conditions are expected in the form of strong winds and sporadic bursts of snow, according to the alert.
The alert also stated some areas will experience “near white-out conditions.”
Winds are likely to reach up to 50 mph.
Particular concern was levied at road and highway conditions in open areas, which are prone to fast blowing snow due to a lack of cover.
Snow showers expected Wednesday morning could worsen travel conditions, according to the alert. '
The alert advised that unnecessary travel should be avoided, especially through rural areas.
