Waukegan man arrested months after Zion murder
Three months after Che Hearns, 31, was found shot in his Zion apartment, a Waukegan man is in custody.
Tavares Reed, 28, was arrested Saturday in Chicago on a first-degree murder warrant issued in October, the Zion Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.
Hearns was found suffering from a gunshot wound 7:30 a.m. Sept. 17 by officers responding to a report of shots fired. Hearns later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Reed and Hearns had had a heated encounter in a Kenosha tavern earlier that morning, after which Reed went to Hearns' apartment and fired into it, according to police.
Reed was on parole for a weapons violation at the time of the shooting, the news release said. He left the state shortly after the shooting, sparking a long investigation by Zion police, authorities said.
