Man now in Wheeling police custody after murder, kidnapping

A man was taken into custody by the Wheeling Police Department for first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping after being extradicted from Missouri, police said Tuesday night.

Ahmeel Fowler, 26, was arrested last week in Springfield, Missouri, for the murder of Ja'nya Murphy, 21, who was found murdered in the Wheeling apartment she shared with her daughter Jaclyn "Angel" Dobbs after family reported no contact with them and feared for their well-being. Angel was later found dead in a pond in northwest Indiana, near Hammond.

Fowler has a bond hearing at the Third District Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows Wednesday, police said.
