Police: Threat against South Elgin High School unfounded

A threat reported Friday against South Elgin High School was unfounded, police said Monday.

Deputy Police Chief Randy Endean said a call came through the police dispatch center indicating that someone would "perhaps show up to the school to shoot up the school."

South Elgin police officers and Kane County sheriff's deputies responded to the school about 7:30 a.m. to ensure the building and students were safe, he said.

Two students fled when asked for identification by school staff at the doors, but were located later and found not to be connected with any threat, Endean said.

Another student made a comment "about possibly having a weapon in his backpack," but that was found not to be true and unrelated to any threat, he added. No criminal charges were filed.
