2 Chicago men charged in Oak Brook home burglary

Two Chicago men have been charged with burglarizing an Oak Brook home in a case where a dropped handgun ended up lodged in a bystander's vehicle.

Bail was set Tuesday at $300,000 for Peter Miller and $250,000 for Michael Miller, who are each charged with one count of residential burglary, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

A spokesman did not know if the Millers are related to each other. Peter Miller, 33, lives in the 6700 block of North Olmsted Avenue, and Michael Miller, 25, lives in the 3400 block of North Elston Avenue.

According to the release, the North Regional Major Crime Task Force has been investigating more than two dozen forced-entry house burglaries. On Monday, officers identified a suspicious vehicle parked outside a home on Windsor Drive in Oak Brook.

When officers arrived, the vehicle left, leading to a high-speed chase on eastbound I-290. An Illinois State Police helicopter tracked the vehicle to 74th Street in southwest suburban Burbank. The Millers were arrested there by Burbank and Bridgeview police.

A rear sliding-glass door of the Oak Brook home was damaged, and the home had been ransacked. A handgun was stolen.

On Tuesday, a person told Lyons police officers that she had been driving behind the chase and saw sparks on the ground behind the fleeing vehicle. When she inspected her car Tuesday morning, she found a handgun lodged in it.

Authorities say it matched the stolen gun.

The men are scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 1 before Judge John Kinsella.

Anyone with more information about house burglaries is asked to call the Hinsdale Police Department at (630) 789-7070.
