Second Chicago man charged in Downers Grove carjacking attempt

Bail has been set at $450,000 for a second Chicago man accused of trying to carjack a woman at a Downers Grove gas station.

Pierre Baugh, 23, of the 7000 block of South Dante Avenue, appeared Thursday in DuPage County bond court.

He is charged with one count of attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, and one count of armed robbery with a firearm.

Baugh's co-defendant, Demario Butler, 30, of the 4300 block of West Maypole Avenue, is facing the same charges. Butler appeared in court on Oct. 25, where his bail was set at $500,000.

Around 1:19 p.m. on Sept. 30, a woman reported she had been robbed by two people at a BP station at Main Street and Ogden Avenue, authorities said.

The woman told police two people approached her - Baugh on the passenger side of her vehicle and Butler on the driver's side.

It is alleged that Butler held a black handgun next to his face, with the barrel pointing up, and demanded the victim's car keys and cellphone, authorities said.

The woman gave him her phone and ran toward the station's store. Butler got into the car but was unable to start it. He got out and then the men fled the scene, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Butler was arrested on Oct. 22, while Baugh was arrested on Tuesday.

To be released before trial, Baugh would need to post $45,000 bond.
