Pumpkin composting events this weekend in Lake County

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and other community organizations will be hosting Pumpkin Smash events this weekend to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing locations for residents to drop-off them off to be composted.

The events are set to take place at: Vernon Hills Park District Maintenance Building, 1400 Indianwood Drive, Vernon Hills, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday; Adler Park Pool parking lot, 1500 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday; Daniel Barry Skate Park parking lot, 100 Library Lane, Grayslake, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday; Gurnee village hall, 325 N. O'Plaine Road, Gurnee, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday; Keith Mione Community Park, 1400 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein, 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

People can also drop off pumpkins through Nov. 30 at Prairieland Disposal, 21988 N. Pepper Road, Lake Barrington. Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
