A body found nearly a week ago in Elgin has been identified as a 48-year-old homeless man.

The Kane County coroner's office said the man is Carl Ahrens, whose last known residence was in and around the homeless community of Elgin.

Elgin police notified the coroner on Oct. 9 that they discovered unidentifiable skeletal remains in a wooded area near the 500 block of Trout Park Blvd in Elgin.

Officials identified the man Friday based on dental records and partial fingerprints.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted involving Elgin police, the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the coroner's office.
