Palatine man accused of stalking woman held without bail

A Palatine man was ordered held without bail on charges he stalked a woman who obtained an order of protection against him.

Juan A. Ramirez-Perez, 37, is charged with aggravated stalking and three counts of misdemeanor violation of an order of protection. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces up to five years in prison. Probation is also an option.

On Aug. 18, the woman obtained an emergency order of protection against Ramirez-Perez, according to Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Kristina Modesto. On Sept. 24, he approached the woman at a Wheeling parking lot, yelled at her, took her phone and fled, Modesto said. She alerted police, Modesto said. A friend drove the woman home where they encountered Ramirez-Perez again, prosecutors said.

On Sept. 26, the woman was at work when Ramirez-Perez entered the business, Modesto said. The woman told him to leave and called police, Modesto said.

On Oct. 2, the woman's son picked her up from work. On the way home, she received a GPS alert informing her he was nearby, Modesto said. Ramirez-Perez was arrested several days later, prosecutors said.

Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort set his bail at $500,000 for the stalking charges and ordered him held without bail for violating the order of protection.

Ramirez-Perez next appears in court Oct. 22.
