Des Plaines council approves convenience store plan

A plan to renovate a Des Plaines gas station and replace service bays with a convenience store was approved by the city council Monday.

The proposal will significantly alter the Marathon station at 10 W. Golf Road.

The owner intends to eliminate three service bays in the building and replace them with a 1,208-square-foot retail area.

Other exterior, interior and facade changes are planned as well.

Under city zoning rules, the new architectural design required a conditional use permit from the council. The permit was granted Monday without discussion.
