Des Plaines teens arrested after fight stemming from fireworks attack
Two Des Plaines teens were arrested after throwing firecrackers at a car and then fighting with its occupant, police said Friday.
Michael Aponte, 18, of the 2100 block of Laura Lane, and Justin Foster, 19 of the 1000 block of East Grant Drive, were charged with aggravated battery stemming from the Sept. 16 confrontation.
The fight occurred on the 1400 block of Ellinwood Drive after Aponte and Foster threw fireworks at a parked car while they were atop a nearby parking garage, police said.
A 20-year-old Des Plaines man in the car got out and fired a BB gun at the teens, police Commander Matthew Bowler said. The teens then went down and attacked the man, punching him and hitting him with a bicycle during the scuffle, police said.
The 20-year-old was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge to be treated for his injuries. He wasn't charged.
Aponte and Foster fled but were identified as the assailants after their faces were picked out during photo lineups, Bowler said. Aponte was arrested Tuesday and Foster was arrested Wednesday.
