A stolen car and illegal handgun were recovered Monday from an Aurora man, Naperville police said in a news release Wednesday.

Abdulhafedh H. Abdulhafedh, 20, of the 1000 block of Pheasant Run Lane, was inside the stolen vehicle on the 1900 block of Brookdale Road with another person when police conducted a routine registration check, the news release said. Upon learning the vehicle had recently been stolen, police arrested Abdulhafedh, but the passenger ran away, police said. This second man was described as a young Black male in his 20s with an athletic build, wearing light jeans and a black T-shirt, according to the news release.

Abdulhafedh was charged with one felony count of possession of a stolen vehicle and one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to the release.

He was taken to DuPage County jail to await a bond hearing, the release said.
