Buffalo Grove Rotary Duck Race set for Sept. 5
The Buffalo Grove Rotary Club's annual Duck Race fundraiser, taking place this year in a residential pool instead of its usual home at the Buffalo Grove Days festival, will be livestreamed on Facebook Live at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5.
The Duck Race is the club's largest fundraiser of the year and helps support a vast range of local and international charitable service efforts. They include community grants given to local nonprofits, college scholarships for Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High School students, a foreign exchange program and Thanksgiving food baskets for in-need families.
The club also provides funding assistance for international clean water efforts, polio eradication and yearly mission trips to Guatemala, where Rotarians volunteer their time on development projects, as well health care and educational initiatives.
"We invite community members to purchase a lucky duck, or two (or more) so that our club can continue to support service projects in our area, and in the international community," said Duck Race Chair Bill Donahue. "Through your support, you can join us in positively impacting the lives of others experiencing a range of challenges, including food insecurity, as well as helping to fund charitable organizations and to help local students go to college through scholarships."
Ducks are available for purchase online now until noon Sept. 5, at bgrotary.org/duckrace. One duck is $5, a 'Quack Pack' of six is $25 and a 'Flock of Ducks' (25) is $100. The owner of the first place duck wins $1,500, second place wins $500 and third place wins $250. The 10 final ten ducks who waddle over the finish line will win $100 each for their owners.
