One man behind bars, another at large after attempted robbery in Gurnee

An 18-year-old Waukegan man is behind bars after police said he pulled a gun on a man he was attempting to rob in Gurnee. Another suspect in the robbery remains at large, police said.

Tyler D. Jackson is charged with aggravated robbery and battery. Authorities said he pulled a gun on a 46-year-old man from Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Thursday afternoon.

Gurnee police officer Shawn Gaylor said officers arrived at the intersection of Tri-State Parkway and Lakeside Drive about 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun.

Investigators determined that the Kenosha man agreed to purchase merchandise from Jackson in Gurnee. Jackson asked the Kenosha man to enter Jackson's car to complete the transaction, police said. There was a second young man in the car with Jackson.

During the transaction, Jackson pulled a gun on the Kenosha man and tried to rob him, police said. The Kenosha man grabbed at the gun and tried to fight off the two men, police said.

During the struggle, a bullet was fired, but police said it didn't hit anyone. After the gunshot, Jackson and the other young man ran from the scene, police said.

Gurnee officers and police dog Hunter eventually located Jackson nearby, Gaylor said.

The second man remains at large. Gaylor said the man was described as a thin, Black and in his late teens, with his hair in short twist braids.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222 or at lakecountycrimestoppers.com.

Jackson is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 25.
