Palatine man seeks Dem nomination for 54th House District

Palatine resident Drew King is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 54th House District seat currently held by Republican state Rep. Tom Morrison.

"Our current state representative has failed to deliver for the fine people of our area, and I simply believe now is the time for a change," King said in a news release.

The district includes all or parts of Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights. King said he's been meeting with residents who say their priorities for the state legislature are jobs and the economy, education and lowering property taxes.

"People are finding it difficult to get the type of education that will lead to a good-paying job to support their families," King said. "And even for the lucky part of the population that succeeds in the first two steps, they immediately get hit by the second highest property taxes in the entire country. That just isn't right."

King grew up in Vernon Hills and Libertyville. He lives with his husband and their two dogs in Palatine, where his husband grew up.

He works as an IT program manager for a small consulting firm based out of San Francisco and Brazil, overseeing initiatives that range from $250,000 to over $15 million, he said. He's also pursuing a master's in business administration from Loyola University of Chicago.

"There are many problems facing Illinoisans, but I believe by electing strong leaders who are more interested in solving them than taking credit we can get Illinois back on the right track," he said.

A primary election will be held in June 2022 before the general election in November 2022.
