Caregiver charged with stealing from Buffalo Grove man

A 50-year-old Chicago woman who officials say stole $10,000 to $100,000 from a Buffalo Grove man while she was his caregiver was indicted Wednesday by a Lake County grand jury on six felony charges.

Dawn W. Wilson is charged with two counts of financially exploiting a person 80 years old or older for more than $5,000 and one count each of theft of less than $100,000, theft by deception of an amount between $10,000 and $100,000, committing an unlawful monetary act and forgery.

According to the criminal complaint, Wilson was employed as the victim's caregiver and wrote checks from his checkbook and deposited them into her personal bank account.

Wilson's attorney, Myron Goldstin, said he had no comment on the case.

Buffalo Grove police investigated the case against Wilson. A judge approved an arrest warrant for Wilson on May 17.

According to court records, Wilson's bail was initially set at $150,000 but was reduced to $75,000 by Lake County Judge Paul Novak. Wilson has posted $7,500 in cash to be allowed out of jail while her case is pending.

She is due back in court for an arraignment hearing July 14.
