The Waukegan police are investigating two separate shootings Wednesday night that left one person dead and one injured.

Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Williamsburg Drive in Waukegan at 8 p.m. and found 24-year-old Marshawn Pettis after he'd been shot, according to a news release from the Waukegan Police Department. Pettis, a Waukegan resident, died at a hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

About an hour later, police were dispatched to the 200 block of Julian Street after someone reported shots were fired, the news release said. Officers found the victim, a man from Waukegan in his 20s. The victim is recovering at a hospital.

Police believe the shootings are unrelated. No one is in custody in either case.

Anyone who has information about either shooting should call the Waukegan Police Department at (847) 360-9001.

A GoFundMe account has been established to help the Pettis family.
