Next chief judge selected in 19th Circuit

Mark L. Levitt will serve as Lake County's chief judge for a term beginning Jan. 3, 2022, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial Circuit Court.

Levitt was elected to the position by fellow circuit court judges last week, the release said. He currently serves as deputy chief judge working in the felony division.

Levitt was first elected as a circuit judge in November 2010. He has also previously worked in the domestic violence courtroom, served as the criminal felony backup judge, and was appointed the presiding judge of the criminal misdemeanor and traffic division, according to the news release.

Before serving as a judge, Levitt worked on the homicide task force in Cook County public defender's office.
