Police arrest Chicago man in Marengo Circle K robbery

McHenry County sheriff's office and federal law enforcement authorities arrested a 26-year-old Chicago man Monday on felony allegations connected to the Feb. 24 shooting and robbery at a Marengo Circle K convenience store that left an employee with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Marengo police announced the arrest of Antonio Pedrote, of the 3300 block of West 23rd Street, on suspicion of armed robbery and armed violence, both Class X felonies, as well as aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

The arrest was made in Chicago, Marengo police said, by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Apprehension Unit alongside the U.S. Marshals Service's Great Lakes Task Force.

Pedrote was transported to the McHenry County Jail, where he was held on a $500,000 bail bond, according to a Marengo police news release.

The investigation into the robbery is ongoing, Marengo police said, and multiple state and federal agencies are involved.

Marengo police said officials identified Pedrote and obtained a warrant for his arrest on the three allegations he is facing so far.

According to the release, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office, McHenry police, Aurora police, Naperville police, Downers Grove police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the Illinois Department of Corrections, as well as the McHenry County sheriff's office and U.S. Marshalls have assisted with the case.

After the Circle K shooting, police said they were looking for two suspects, and Aurora officers said they thought a late February string of convenience store robberies in their city was connected to the Marengo robbery.

Officials did not respond to inquiries Monday evening into whether any other arrests have been made in connection with the Marengo robbery. An attempt to reach the Aurora Police Department Monday evening also was unsuccessful.
