Animal shelter proposed for Wheeling

Wheeling's plan commission meets Wednesday to discuss a proposal for an animal shelter at 586 Palwaukee Drive, as well as other business.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at village hall, 2 Community Blvd.

A Northbrook nonprofit company called Heartland Animal Shelter wants to relocate to Wheeling, documents indicate. A special use permit would be needed because the property is zoned for industrial uses.

The commission advises the village board, which will make any final decision about the proposal.
